Nokia 5230 gets FCC approval, US 3G doesn’t
Nokia 5230 gets FCC approval, US 3G doesn’t
The Nokia 5230’s as good a reason as any to dip your toe in the S60 5th Edition waters without breaking the bank (and without sacrificing 3G altogether like you’d have to with the 5530), so if you’re planning on picking one up, you may as well start learning everything you need to know before it hits your doorstep — and the fastest way to do that right now is going to be to pay a quick visit to the FCC’s vast data warehouse where the full documentation has just gone live. This particular version of the phone rocks 900 / 2100 only as far as WCDMA goes, meaning North Americans are going to be completely 3G-free — but at any rate, the manual’s a good read. The photography isn’t the glossiest we’ve ever seen, but then again, we’ve never seen an FCC lab put a lot of effort into it — just not their bag, we guess.

Motorola CLIQ Android smartphone announced
Motorola CLIQ Android smartphone announcedAs promised, Motorola have announced their first Android device, the MOTOCLIQ, at the Mobilize conference in San Francisco today. The Motorola CLIQ will be an exclusive for T-Mobile in the USA and go on sale before the holidays; it has a 3.1-inch HVGA 320 x 480 touchscreen,3G, WiFi and a flip-out QWERTY keyboard. Meanwhile the new MOTOBLUR system syncs contacts, messages, feeds, photos and more from Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Gmail, corporate email Last.fm and more, putting all of the new information on the smartphones homescreen.
Like HTC Sense, Motorola have developed custom widgets for their device, which put access to MOTOBLUR social networking, weather, browser and widgets. Theres a single widget which allows you to send status updates either to one, several or all of your social networks with a single tap; meanwhile a homepage network window widget shows the stream of newest information.
Theres also a Messages widget, which integrates different types of messaging into a single window; as Motorola says, its a way to see the communications without needing to know how they were delivered. Like the Palm Pre, MOTOBLUR automatically combines different contacts from different platforms into a single list, together with showing statuses from each of those platforms and offering ways to communicate with each of them. You can, for instance, leave a message on someones Facebook wall directly from the contacts page.
MOTOBLUR Video demo:
MOTOBLUR also supports remote wiping through a secure website. If you lose your phone, you can clear it remotely but keep your data to load back onto your replacement device.
The Motorola CLIQ will be available in two colors, Winter White and Titanium. It has a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, 24fps video capture, a 3.5mm headphone socket, the usual Google browser and integrated GPS with turn-by-turn directions. A microSD slot comes complete with a 2GB card, and the Amazon MP3 store app is preloaded. Of course theres also the Android Market, and the usual Google applications. The CLIQ is expected to hit T-Mobile USA in Q4 this year, price tba.
Motorola will also launch the same device - as the Motorola DEXT - around the world, including Orange in France, America Movil in Latin America and Telefonica in Spain. Motorola are promising a second device that will be announced later on in the year, and launched in time for the holiday season.

Motorola Dext / Cliq previewed. Low price apparently confirmed
Motorola Dext / Cliq previewed. Low price apparently confirmedAnnounced yesterday as Motorola Cliq for T-Mobile USA and Motorola Dext for the rest of the world, Motos first Android smartphone is definitely one of the companys most interesting devices in the last few years.
Initially known as Motorola Morrison, the Cliq / Dext is a touchscreen handset with a full QWERTY keyboard and almost any feature youd want from a modern smartphone, including 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi , 3.5mm headset jack and a 5MP autofocus camera.
The phone uses MotoBlur, a customized Android UI that syncs all your contacts and provides quick access to social networking services.
A preview of the Motorola Cliq / Dext has just appeared over at Mobile-review. The general impression is that the smartphone is a really nice one.
The MotoBlur UI (which requires you to create an account) works well, the touchscreen display is good and responsive, while the QWERTY keyboard is quite handy.

Motorola Cliq / Dext vs Nokia N97:
Motorola hasnt announced the price of its first Android smartphone, but it looks like its going to be a pretty low one.
Eldar Murtazin says that the Moto Dext will cost about 150 ($220) unsubsidized, and 1 on contract, while T-Mobiles Moto Cliq is rumored to be $400 without contract, and free with. Of course, we cant know for sure how much the Cliq / Dext will cost until something official comes up
